Black and White show stuff

This exhibition seeks to show art that has cast away the color system and focuses on the visual power of black and white; reflecting the innovative and contemporary in painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, mixed media and sculpture.

Inviting all artists across multiple and interdisciplinary mediums and forms to participate. 2D and 3D work is encouraged.

Juror: Deanne Pytlinski, Ph.D.

Deanne Pytlinski is Associate Professor of Art History, Theory and Criticism at Metropolitan State University of Denver, specializing in Modern and Contemporary Art. She is currently serving as Chair of the Department of Art at MSU Denver which includes the Center for Visual Art in the Santa Fe Arts District.

Dr. Pytlinski earned her Ph.D. in Art History from the CUNY Graduate Center and her Master’s Degree from Pratt Institute in New York. Her research focuses on intersections between feminism, technology, and performance art and she has published on women in early video art and on video collectives. In 2014, she curated the exhibition Craft Tech/Coded Media: Women, Art and Technology, at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art for which she also contributed a catalog essay. She has presented at College Art Association, Southeast College Art Council (SECAC), and the National Council of Arts Administrators. 

Born in Colorado, she was Gallery Manager at Grant Gallery early in her career and interned in New York at the New Museum of Contemporary Art, the Brooklyn Museum, and the former American Craft Museum. Dr. Pytlinski is currently working on expanding her research on contemporary art and feminism into Cuba and Eastern Europe and is developing student opportunities in those locations as well. 

Judging the work will rely on overall impact, content, composition and mastery of techniques. Attention to creativity and craftsmanship is a very important part of this as well. When entering please list all the media used. Consider weight and the fragility of your media if you are mailing your entry.

REQUIREMENTS: Art must be completely dry. Wall and suspended art must have suitable means for hanging. NO SAWTOOTH HANGERS. Standing art must be stable. Set-up diagram must accompany multiple pieces and installation art. All art must remain in place for the duration of the show.

SALES: CORE charges a 30% commission plus tax on art sold. CORE will collect the payment for the artist: however, the artist is responsible for terms of any sale. Your payment less the 30% commission will be rebated to your address within 45 days of the close of the show. Art need not be for sale.

LIABILITY: CORE will take all due precautions to protect premises and art. However, CORE is not responsible for loss due to damage, theft, vandalism, or accident. If work is fragile, it is submitted at the artist's own risk. Artist is responsible for his/her own insurance

SHIPPING/DROP-OFF: Artists are responsible for safely shipping their art, which must be received by May 5, 2018. COMPLETE SHIPPING DETAILS WILL BE EMAILED TO ACCEPTED APPLICANTS.

RETURN SHIPPING/PICK-UP: Any artwork delivered in person or shipped without reusable packaging material or without prepaid shipping label must be retrieved by the artist at the end of the exhibition unless sold. Art must be picked up by 4pm May 27, 2018. After 30 days, art will be considered abandoned. Abandoned artwork will be considered property of the gallery. Please ensure that we have good contact information for you so that we can avoid this situation.

The WOW show has been a  Denver metro-area tradition for over 25 years and artists of all skill levels are encouraged to submit entries. All media will be considered.  Entries will taken at the gallery during regular hours until 3/4/2018.  Artists will be notified if you DO NOT GET INTO THE SHOW.

All media accepted including painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media, printmaking and photography

Wild and crazy art is encouraged.

$10 per entry (multiple entries for an artist accepted), all media accepted, Core will take 30% commission on works sold, work can be NFS (not for sale).

Please ensure that we have good contact information to avoid this.

CORE reserves the right to refuse entry to artwork that does not meet the submission guidelines. The juror(s) have the final decision on acceptance/rejection of artwork. CORE retains 30% commission on artwork sold. Commissions and entry fees support CORE's community outreach and help to provide local artists and patrons a viable visual alternative.

Mixed Media Show - All That You Can Imagine

A painting, a drawing, a sculpture... NO! It’s mixed media! It’s all of those things and more. Show us your skill and your creative endeavors in your assemblage, mixed media paintings, collage, sculpture and all that you can imagine. 

Inviting all artists working in mixed media across multiple and interdisciplinary mediums and forms to participate. 2D and 3D work is encouraged.

Juror: Suzette Rosenthal

Suzette Rosenthal is a mixed media artist living and working in Broomfield, Colorado. She received her BA in Art from Cal State LA and is a recent transplant from Laguna Beach California.  While living in California, she exhibited for ten years at the prestigious Laguna Beach Sawdust festival and taught classes and workshops in mixed media. She has contributed instructional chapters to two publications available on Amazon:  “101 Mixed Media Techniques” (2014) and “Mixed Media Workshop” (2012)     Suzette continues to teach mixed media classes and workshops from her home studio in Broomfield and serves on the board of the Broomfield Art Guild.

Her work is unique and visually compelling. She is drawn to textures and likes to experiment with incorporating found objects and upcycled materials to create visual interest. Taking the cast-off objects of others and bringing new life and meaning to it is a driving force behind her inspiration.

This past year, Suzette has curated two shows at the Bricolage Gallery inside Art Parts in Boulder Colorado: “It’s a Small World – Miniature and Mail Art” and “Reused Refuge”
